Win a Website Competition Details
"win a website" design competition details
All submissions and queries should be sent to competition@owlbear.co.uk. Entrants must be current students with Learning Curve Home Study.
1 - design specifications
A submitted website design should consist of a single mockup of a home page for a website. The website you design should be for either yourself (e.g. as a personal portfolio page or blog) or your business.
The design should depict a static website design - specifically without complex animations (no Flash animations, etc). The only other limitations on the design are those imposed upon the final prize itself (see section 2).
Submissions should be based on a common monitor resolution - we recommend using a resolution of 1024x768 as the basis for all designs, although you should feel free to present designs at any resolution.
1.1 - submission formats
Most graphical formats are acceptable although we recommend TIFF or PSD (Photoshop documents).
1.2 - materials ownership
All materials (graphics, designs, textual content) entered into this competition must be the property of the entrant. In the event that you enter materials which you do not have the rights to use, with or without your own knowledge, you will be disqualified from the competition and will not be permitted to re-enter. In the event of disqualification you may also be exluded from future competitions and promotions run by Owlbear.
1.3 - submission ownership
All entered designs remain the property of the entrant. Owlbear will not use the designs for purposes external to the judging process without explicit permission from the entrant.
2 - the prizes
Both prizes are presented in the form of a non-transferable voucher.
- Each voucher is valid for a period of 12 months after issue, after which it may not be redeemed.
- A voucher may only be redeemed by the individual to whom it was awarded (or an associated business).
2.1 - first prize: a free website
First prize is a single free website package based on the winning design, as well as 12 months of free hosting and site maintenance. The package will include the following:
- website design (HTML/CSS/JavaScript)
- search engine optimisation
- a full content management system (Drupal)
2.1.1 - scope
- The website may be up to £2000 in value - the value of the site is determined solely by Owlbear's estimated completion time for the site, multiplied by Owlbear's current hourly rate for work of this kind.
- 12 months free maintenance consists of 2 hours of free maintenance per calander month for 12 months (beginning at the date of the websites's completion). "Maintenance" covers changes to the site's content and in some cases small changes to the functionality of the site. Any works in excess of 2 hours per calander month to the site are considered to be outside the scope of the free "maintenance" and will be billed accordingly (though not without explicit prior consent from the client).
- The following services are outside the scope of the project: online marketing and ecommerce.
- The "free website" prize also entitles the prize-holder to up to £20,000 of additional works at half-price, after the completion of the free website. This offer must be utilised within 6 months of the completion of the free website.
2.2 - runner-up prize: 50% off
The runner-up prize (given to four runners-up) entitles the prize-holder to a single website package at 50% off.
2.2.1 - scope
- The website may be up £20,000 in it's original value (prior to discounting) - the value of the site is determined solely by Owlbear's estimated completion time for the site, multiplied by Owlbear's current hourly rate for work of this kind.
- The package may include any of the services Owlbear offers, providing these are accomodated by the aforementioned budget.
